There are some very pretty white mums already blooming at my church. Since I'm being very, very brave lately and stepping out into the cuttings and rootings (although sometimes I call it rottings) zone, can you do this with mums? I'd love to have some at my house... can I cut them and root them or what?

Hi JSS. I root them all the time. Whenever I cut mine back, I snip off buds/flowers, strip off the lower leaves and just stick them in the ground next to the mama (so I know who is who). I have about a 99% success rate. Just make sure you keep the soil moist. I see no reason that you couldn't do it. Good luck!

Mums bloom ingnow are the ones forced originally and bloom earlier. You can get ones that bloom in sept. or oct. at the nurseries and then of course, they can be rooted. Be sure to pinch back mums 2 or 3 times during the growing season, so they will be bushier and not tall and rangey. The tall ones flop over and are ruined by the dirt splashing up on them during rainy spells

Chrysanthemum is the genus, there are many many species
