Lookit! Look it!

Nipomo, CA(Zone 8a)

Look at this itty bitty iris, it is only about 1 1/2 inch wide and all but sitting on the ground. I am so pleasantly suprised. Don't recall planting it! But Yea! I just wanted to share!

How funny, where's his leaves??!!?

Nipomo, CA(Zone 8a)

There are none! I can barely see the stem, it is like the flower just popped out of the dirt all by it's lonesome!

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

It looks like iris reticulata (a bulb iris) 'Harmony'.

How cute!

Iris reticulata. The flowers often up with or before the leaves. The leaves will then come up, get quite long, and then die. Actually I think the histriodes ones are the ones where the flower comes before the leaves.

As Boojum said, a bulb iris, so you might have got them in a bulb mix?

The bulbuous irises are start of gardening season here, always welcome.
