i'm new to ferns, but i know enough to not take on a creeping fern. however, i don't know the difference between a clumping fern and a crown fern. how do they grow differently?
a clump-forming - is described in the gardenology section as:
" a plant that produces smaller crowns near the parent; these offsets can be divided and removed to a new location."
a crown as:
"The base of a plant, where stem and root meet."
i'm confused. sounds like a crown is a clump?????????????
help
debi z and my little gardening doggi franklin
clumping or crown ferns???
debi,
A crown forming fern stays a single crown, it will grow in size but stays single.
A clump-forming fern makes babies (little crowns) around its head crown, that can eventually be transplanted to another location.
Hope this helps.
thanks bonitin, that helped a lot. :)
bonitan, thanks for the clarification, Jim
