Recommendations for container in shade

Painesville, OH(Zone 5b)

I would love something that smells wonderful on my porch, but it would be in shade. Any ideas? TIA, Tamara

Is it in full shade or is there some sun?
So long as you are keeping it in a container I would say Lily of the Valley would be ok. It would need to be thined from time to time but the fragrance is heavenly! http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/55500/ There is also a pink http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/53/
Just don't put i in the ground unless you don't mind it taking over.

You know what? I actually can't get it to grow in my garden! Isn't that strange? I've heard how invasive it can be, but it barely survives for me. I think I'm going to pot a 'Fragrant Bouquet' hosta...the scent is actually similar to LOV (at least to me it is). :-) Tamara

I wonder why you can't get it to grow? I grew up in Cleveland and I remember my mom growing it so it definitely should do OK in your climate.

I know why--because I WANT it to! I love LOV---it was my favorite flower as a little girl. Now, of course, if I didn't give a lick about it, it would take over. ;-) Tamara

I know what you mean! The plants you love and baby along always die on you, and the nasty things you want to get rid of will look up at you and laugh after being doused with gallons of Roundup!
