Elderberries, anyone?

Aulander, NC(Zone 7a)

Been doing some winter dreaming/plans ...trying to think of something productive to plant in my big, wetland backyard.

Does anyone here have experience with growing elderberries? I know that you need 2 different types for pollination and that they are tolerant of wet /moist soil. From all I've read they should do fine in NC but I'd like to hear the voice of experience before I leap. Help, please?

All I know about them is that they grow in the ditches down here in the bottom corner of SC. I had them growing along a river in MD and I know they grow in NY so you should be fine.

Nourse Farms always has a nice selection of berries and from what I have read, you don't need two different varieties of elderberries. They are excellent at planting questions for the specific things they sell, again, primarily berries (Yum!) Have purchased raspberries, blueberries and hard to find varieties of strawberries. All simply great!

Since you are on the east coast you might try edible landscaping in afton, va. I've ordered from them and always been happy with the result.

What do elderberries taste like?
I've always referenced them to Monty Python... (smilin')

Pinger42- I'm not much of writer and describing a taste is difficult- a bit like tart red grapes with a
touch of blackberry??

As to your reference- it brings back memories (lol).
