Anyone have one? How can you tell they're ripe? What do they taste like? I have a small tree that has several fruit.

Lakeland, FL(Zone 10a)

The fruit can be somewhat difficult to tell when ready to pick since they are very hard and dont change color. But when immature the skin is are pretty rough when you feel them. They will become smooth when ready to pick. The fruit will still be hard. Let it ripen a few days or so, should be slightly soft when ready to eat. They are best cold. Flavor is very good particularly in some of the better varieties, very sugary, somehat like a pear, some are almost maple-like in flavor.
