Looking for ways to extend light bulb life

Hi all-

We seem to have a lot of light bulbs blow out when we turn on and off the lights here. Are there any gadgets we can buy that will extend the life of our lightbulbs?

When I was a kid, there were light night commecials on TV showing rings you could buy to put in the sockets before you screwed in your lightbulbs that were supposed to extend the life of lightbulbs. The object, I believe, was to slowly get electricity to them instead of an instant surge.
