Gardners Gate Fund 2006 Donations

Hello Folks

I thought I'd write a separate thread for this as the sticky thread seems to have run it's course for now and some of you may not spot a new post.

All the funds are now in for the 2006 Gardeners Gate and it totals £67.00! (about 0.30 under 100EUR)

A huge thank you to you all for contributing and I hope the seed grow well for you.

As we all like to know how our hard earned is spent, I'd like to say that th £67.00 is the total donations, I've taken nothing out for paypal fees, stamps or packing goods and it's the full £67.00 that's going to charity.

Some of you have already offered suggestions on how the money is spent and I'd like to suggest the following to include those suggestions.

16 x Mango Saplings £32.00 http://www.oxfamunwrapped.com/ProductItem.aspx?ProductID=OU2602&CategoryID=26
1 x Tool Set £13.00 http://www.oxfamunwrapped.com/ProductItem.aspx?ProductID=OU2602&CategoryID=26
30 x Saplings of Fruit trees £10.00 http://www.sendacowgifts.org.uk/catalogue/giftDetail.asp?giftID=5
OR instead of the fruit trees - 1 x Share of a Beehive http://www.sendacowgifts.org.uk/catalogue/giftDetail.asp?giftID=2
1 x Lot of Fertilizer £6.00 http://www.oxfamunwrapped.com/ProductItem.aspx?ProductID=OU2616&CategoryID=3
100 x School Dinners http://www.oxfamunwrapped.com/ProductItem.aspx?ProductID=OU2643

Any other suggestions ASAP please will gratefully received (as long as they pertain to the subject in hand of course :)

I will be spending this cash before Christmas and will share any confirmation letter with you all, possibly by d-mail so you know what's happening.

There was a slight change of plan from the above and I split the donations between Send a Cow and Oxfam. I stuck with fruit trees and added seeds which seemed appropriate. Here are the details from Send a Cow and E-cards to the donors included as links.

Thank you for your donation.

This is one of the most important gifts you will ever send. It will enable a poor family in Africa to transform their lives, and work their way out of poverty and malnutrition, probably forever. And it doesn't stop there. Each farmer helped as a result of your donation will agree to pass-on the equivalent of what they have received (their first female offspring, some fruit tree seedlings or a share of the first honey harvest) to another poor farmer who will do the same in their turn. As a result your donation will be felt throughout whole communities and generations for many years to come.

Order date: 31/12/2006

Quantity Gift Price
1 30 saplings £10.00

1 Start pack of vegetable seeds plus two days' training £20.00

Order Total £30.00

This acknowledges the receipt of your order from the Send a Cow Gift Catalogue.
If you did not place this order, please contact us at info@sendacow.org.uk

Thank you again for choosing a present that makes a difference and helping to improve the lives of an African family.

Sincerely,
Send a Cow

All about Send a Cow

Send a Cow is a Christian organisation that enables poor farmers in Africa to become self-reliant by providing them with livestock, training and advice. We work with some of the most vulnerable groups in Africa, including children orphaned by war, families affected by AIDS, and disabled people.

We purchase all livestock within Africa and work in ten of the poorest countries in the continent - Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

To date we have helped thousands of families with direct gifts of livestock, training and other suitable support such as fruit tree saplings and beehives - and thousands more families as each farmer passes-on the equivalent of what they have received to another poor farmer, who will do the same in their turn.

Costs quoted in the catalogue reflect the total ‘gift’ packages we provide, including the delivery of high quality livestock (or associated farming-related gifts) plus training and low-cost support and veterinary services. All the profits from the catalogue will support our livestock and sustainable farming programmes in Africa – with donations providing the most suitable assistance to the groups we are working with.

(I don't know what the DG system objects to, despite all efforts and removing a number of words it still gives me a warning so if you spot any vulgarity or profanity, political or religious debate material please let me know :)

For some reason Oxfam hasn't yet sent me a confirmation, however here are the ecards to show you where the money has been spent, you can check the amount by using the catalogue (£37.00).

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

We trust you have done it all correctly Baa, you have put a lot of effort into this and I think you deserve on huge pat on the back and a big THANK YOU!

Thanks Wallaby1 and thank you for your part in this too!

I know previously Dave and Trish liked this kind of thing to be all openly reported just in case there are any problems or questions. As I occasionally drop of the map if things go into flurry mode it's helpful to know it's now all done and dusted for the most part :)

Which reminds me, there is a fridge magnet from Oxfam (apparently) so if anyone has any ideas what to do with this, apart from sticking it on a fridge, please let me know.

There is also the question of the remaining RR seeds. I could offer them for postage or if anyone knows any worthy causes that requires seed please let me know.

Rethymno, Crete, Greece(Zone 10b)

Put the seeds (or at least a representative amount of each) into a new RR and get it going now; how's that for an idea?
