ID for this plant?

Yardley, PA

I have had this plant for many years and lost the tag a long time ago. I am not sure what it is and was wondering if any recognized it. Thanks. Maybe a Fockea?

Hi,

It's probably not a Fockea - I don't think that the Fockeas have lobed leaves. After much flipping through of my Caudiciform & Pachycaul Succulents book (Rowley) the closest I can come is that it is some type of Cucurbit (in the cucumber family). The leaves and vining tendrils look alot like Coccinea sessilifolia. Take a look at this web site: http://www.bennyskaktus.dk/Cucurbitaceae_pictures_UK.htm
There are pictures of alot of plants that bear some resemblance to yours.
The caudex on your plant is amazing - it reminds me of the huge rocks in Arizona and Utah that seem to balance on the edge on cliffs and defy gravity.
Sorry I can't be of more help, but I'm no expert . . . hopefully some one will come along with more knowledge.

I am pretty sure your plant is a Cucurbitaceae, probatly a Kedrostis. Have a look at this page, and those after:
http://www.bihrmann.com/caudiciforms/subs/ked-afr-sub.asp . IDs on Cucurbitaceae is not easy! The are pretty much alike, and the same plant can change shape of it leaves.

Thank you. That is very helpful. I think you are absolutely right.
