Removing programs from startup

How do I stop a program from launching on startup? The programs appear on the taskbar so I assume that they are always running. In this case, Quicktime and some camera software. I don't want to delete them, I just don't want them to autoload because I rarely use them. Windows XP.

PS- Is there a way to tell these things not to add themselves to the startup menu when I add new software? I don't recall this option during the installation process.
