Why can't they all be this way? I planted this in August and already have a bloom. I think it's called "I feel good". I ordered it from Schreiner's but it's no longer in their catalog or on their website so can't say for sure.
My very first iris bloom..
What a lovely pre-Christmas gift for you! However, it's not 'I Feel Good'. It looks more like 'Suky' or 'City Lights' or one of the other purple zonal rebloomers.
Very nice!
Laurie
That was my first guess, but kept thinking it should be more blue than purple. For some reason I had trouble with my camera picking up the true colors of this, the pics look blue, but the bloom looks more like purple. Since I did order city lights and not sulky, I would have to say you are right. Now I know who to ask about the other 43 I didn't tag..LOL
That's why you should never evaluate color of an iris flower in a photo. Different cameras, different films, different computer software, different monitors, different lighting conditions, etc. etc. etc. - all can skew colors from what you see in the living plant. The best you can do in photos is compare patterns and flower form ... and even those can be pretty doggone variable.
BTW, blues and purples are notoriously difficult to capture accurately in photos.
Laurie
Hmm, might not be 'City Lights', after all. I thought I remembered CL being a rebloomer, but it's not listed in the Reblooming Checklist. I would assume any iris blooming at this time of year would pretty much have to be a rebloomer (unless there's a good reason for seasonal confusion as sometimes happens with recent Australian imports). So, don't tag that one just yet. If you'd like to post the names of all of the irises you received in that order, perhaps we can narrow down the possible IDs for you.
Laurie
Thanks for that info, good thing my garden isn't color coordinated. Gonna have to keep that in mind next year when I order.
Laurie, if it's not "I feel good" then I'd say your still correct with City Lights. I planted this in August but had to move it in September. At that time our temps were running in the 80's. So yes, it is in Seasonal Confusion I think. Too bad the others don't think the same. The only other purples I ordered were inside track, crystal gazer, deep dark secret, baja blue (bonus),epicenter, whispering falls, and blueberry bliss (another bonus).
If those are the only possible options, then yes, it would be City Lights.
Laurie
Thanks, one down. Maybe someone will have a "I feel good" bloom this spring so I can get a picture of it.
There are pics of 'I Feel Good' in the PlantFiles here at DG. You can view them here:

Definetly not that one, the beard is not yellow on mine. One more question, if you don't mind? I looked thru 75 of the 600+ pages in the plant files, is there a way to put the name in there..other than just iris ?
Absolutely! Go to:
http://davesgarden.com/pf/adv_search.php?Search=Search+plants
Type the name of the iris you are looking for in the box adjacent to the word "Cultivar"
Ah, that's what it means...what a help that will be! Going there now..thanks!
It looks like my City Lights, will post later, and it's blooming now. Way to go my friend!
Yep, it looks just like mine. If yours is blooming also, then maybe it re-blooms in warmer climates? The funny thing is this was the cheapest one that I ordered, Schreiner's had it on sale for $6.00. My expensive ones are hardly growing and have gone domant for the time.
Here where I live it's the oposite, our gardens look like that in the summertime, when the temps get to 130.
We only get to 98+ degrees in the summer and -50 degrees with winds in the winter. Our weather extremes keep the population down.
And your irises make it thru that freeze..do you cover them or cut them back ? Didn't I read somewhere that irises have to have a cold spell in order to bloom, or was that some other plant ? Wanda, I would just die to have all the nice irises you have !
The Dwarf bearded iris & Intermediate bearded iris seem to thrive on our harsh weather. The historic and older Tall Bearded Iris as well as the Space Age TBs enjoy our weather. The Border Bearded & Minature Tall Bearded seem to do well too. I have found some of the newer ruffleds take a couple of years to adapt or just die.
My iris are mixed into beds with daylilies, lilies, phlox & a host of other perennials. I don't mulch them--just try to get them trimmed down before March thaws.
Oh, excuse me. The Master Gardeners official line is that Tall Bearded iris do not do well in Iowa. I must be mistaken.
Yes Wanda you must be mistaken. My TBs seem to be doing just fine, are covered in 18 inches of snow and loving it. We must always push the boundries or we would have very few beautiful flowers
What's snow?!!?!!?
That's enough from you sunny Californians. Rainy here, but the January winds will soon be blowing it all in...
Just don't blow it our way.... under 70 and I'm cold! The closest I come to snow is when the winds pick up and blow the sand around.
They don't know what there missing, as long as we have snow the weeds are not growing. Get to curl up in my big comfy chair, with all my garden cataloques. I have finger nails now.
I lived in Reno, Nv for about 4 months. That was the coldest winter they had in 10 years and I can still remember those days. It took forever for my bones to thaw out. Although we did have plenty of ice for our margaritas!
LOL Nothing like an icy margarita to warm you up! I like burning wood in the fireplace while I read a book with the dog on my lap. Something primitive about a crackling fire with snow outside the windows. Well, no choice about the dog--Walker the Wonderdog is a baby and loves a warm lap.
No snow for Chritmas here--in the 50s all last week.
Well I still have fires but outside in a pit. Are you sad about not having snow for Christmas? Even 50's is cold. And where are pics of Walker the Wonderdog ?
