Let's go gardening!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm making the regional forums circuit to let folks know about our new feature here: http://davesgarden.com/go/

One of the important differences that will distinguish this feature from other general "trip advisor" or "yellow pages" sites is the input from each of us as gardeners.

Please add your feedback for the businesses you've patronized and the public gardens and parks you have visited. It helps other gardeners and the business or organization.

For smaller businesses and organizations, this type of "word of mouth" is their only form of advertising. And for businesses of any size, unsolicited testimonials are priceless - they can't buy that type of good will.

Here are the Midsouth state listings so far:

AL: http://davesgarden.com/go/advanced.php?state=al
AR: http://davesgarden.com/go/advanced.php?state=ar
LA: http://davesgarden.com/go/advanced.php?state=la
MS: http://davesgarden.com/go/advanced.php?state=ms
TN: http://davesgarden.com/go/advanced.php?state=tn

You can narrow these down to a particular category (garden center/nursery, or public gardens, etc.) You can also plug in your ZIP and specify a radius (especially helpful if you live near the state line and want to see everything in your immediate area.)

If your favorite nursery or park/garden isn't listed yet, let us know and we'll add it, or start the entry and add what you know (we'll fill in the blanks.)

Love It !

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Thats a smart Idea.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Great! ginger749, this is intended to be a global resource, and you're welcome (actually strongly encouraged!) to add the parks, public gardens and nursery centers in your area as well ;o)

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Thank you Terry.

Crossville, TN(Zone 6b)

This is a great idea. It would be so convenient when traveling. I added Crossville to the Farmer's market list and 3 comments on our Local Garden Centers. Linda

Thanks!!!! I think Dave will put in some very handy search tools as it grows.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

I just thought of our local Farmer's Market in Forest Park, GA just so of Atlanta. I went there last week and got some beauties. They don't seem to have the bargains they used to, but a great selection.

Here it is: http://gardens.com/go/view/7671/ please do add your own review (looks like a great place ;o)

Terry,

We have a wonderful farmers market in Memphis TN that is doing it's second year with incredible success.

Venders have to offer locally grown products and come from three states.

There is music, entertainment, kids activities and more.

A great enrichment for our River City. Below their link.

I added them here: http://gardens.com/go/view/7942/ - I hope you'll add a review!

I would recommend the Raleigh, NC State Farmer's market on Lake Wheeler road. Great plants and wonderful produce.

Holly Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

I already had a username and log in - that's rare! didn't realize this was a DG tool. Congrats on this nice site!

Orlando, FL

We have the Harry P. Leu Gardens in Orlando, Fla. It is on 50 acres and well worth the visit if you are every in the orlando area. I got there quite a lot. you can visit the web site at www.leugardens.org located 1920 North Forest Ave. Fran

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

This is it, I think: http://gardens.com/go/view/155/

Care to add a review for them?

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

I wish I could add a review. I used to live just about 6 blocks from the H. P. Gardens just a block off Bumby. It was a free thing then, but I was in my 20's and not really doing much gardening. I often thought of driving back in there, but never did. At the time it was a private residence and sort of forboding. Opportunity missed.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Well, if you can't add a review for that garden, I bet you'll find other places you've visited more frequently, which you can add a review for ;o)

We have over 600 Georgia resources listed (farmers markets, public gardens and parks, garden centers, landscapers, pumpkin patches, u-picks, etc.): http://gardens.com/go/advanced.php?state=ga

If you want to browse, here's where you can pick your state and type of resources: http://gardens.com/go/browse/gardencenters/

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

One thing I do know, and I am very disappointed in - the Pike Family Nursery in Stockbridge, GA is no longer a nursery - they only carry "Hardscape". They do have lots of beautiful rocks, many kinds of stone and gravel, etc.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I've edited their categories, but will you add a review with that information? It will undoubtedly save others a trip if they know it's hardscape only now.

Gallatin, TN(Zone 7b)

Terry - We toured gardens in SC, Fla, and GA this year, and last year we went to MS, KY, and IN. Some were public gardens, some were private. Do I put in the zip code for the area they were in and then plug them in?
Karen

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

First thing is to check and make sure someone else hasn't added them. You'll find a search box on the main page, and a ZIP code search when you drill down a bit.

If it's not in there, then plug away or send 'em to me and I'll add them for you. Then - the really important part - be sure to add your reviews ;o)

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Terry, could you please add AL to the top. We have many great nurseries, arboretums and Botanical Gardens. If you are drive from Georgia to Mississippi, you have to go through Alabama. :~)

I have found the entries from Go Gardening and it has helped me, but it would be nice for other folks to see what we have to offer too. Tennessee to Florida panhandle, drive through Alabama!

Thanks,
Traci

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm not sure where this new thread alert has been hiding (probably under the pile of stuff on my monitor ;o)

At any rate, Alabama is now on the list - thanks!

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Thanks so much!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

You're very welcome!

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

One question, you actually have other thread alerts other than mine? I thought it was one on one service. ;^)

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

hehehehe - just a *few* other alerts ;o)

Bay, AR(Zone 7a)

I have just added a new nursery in Jonesboro, AR, called Harmony Gardens. It looks like it is going to be a great place to shop! I bought two lorapetalums, an irish moss, and a couple of dark colored sedums. Very nice!

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

I almost forgot about one of my favorite nurseries, in Griffin, GA it's the "Plant Emporium". I have bought things there off and on for many years. The owners are great people and have their own GH where they propagate many of the things they sell. The prices are very reasonable since they don't have to pay a middleman. They have lovely and unusual garden ornaments, bird houses, etc.
http://www.google.com/search?q=The+Plant+Emporium%2C++Griffin%2C+GA&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1 I hadn't been in there for about 2 years, and the owner Robin Porter called me by name, what a sweetie. I would go more often, but it is about 20 miles from me.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Azalea, be sure to leave a review here: http://davesgarden.com/products/go/view/1417/

Piedmont, AL(Zone 7b)

I didn't see Bloomin Miracles 651 Whites Gap Road
Jacksonville, Alabama

Nice folks, nice stuff......run by Victoria and David Dubose. Japanese Maples, perennials and more pots than you could....well they got lots of pots anyways.,,,,,:)

I go by there whenever I can sneak off from my wonderful wife who is under some illusion that we have spent more than enough on the garden......:)
