help on diabetes

i just went to dr. yesterday and was told i had diabetes,but she wasn,t sure which one
she said hopefully its 2. she gave me some medicine called metformin
i have to go far 4 weeks and get blood test, to see if this medicine is makeing my body do what it suppose to.she gave me so much stuff to read that it has floored me,
if any one has it what can i eat.i need all the help i can get.my gluscos level was 180
