More Fascinating Fungi

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

After viewing all the wonderful pictures in bonitin's thread, it prompted me to post some photos of mushrooms, etc. that we've taken during our summers in Michigan. Unfortunately this year was too dry to find much to photograph, but here's a sampling of what we've found in the past. I don't have any ID's for these but would welcome anyone's help.

I'll start it off with my very favorite - Indian Pipes

This one I do know - Conopholis americana (Squaw Root or Cancer Root). We found this group while traveling in Ontario.

These always fascinate me - the way they grow and how large they can get

I think these are all the same, but those in the background look a little different, almost like "flowers"

Orange and yellow forms - it's amazing when looking back at these photos how many we took that had visitors on them - Daddy Long Legs :)

Ending with another fascinating plant - Corallorhiza striata (Striped Coralroot) - taken on the Bruce Peninsula in Ontario

I believe my interest with mushrooms began after I had the opportunity to attend a lecture years ago with Dr. Sam Ristich, THE Mushroom Guru. What a fascinating man and an excellent sense of humor :) Love this picture of him with his "mushroom" shirt!

Thanks for the picture show! They are fungi a la carte, amazing forms and colours! Some made me laugh, some made me gasp, all a lot of fun!

Any more?

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

LOL, with this dial up connection it took me forever to get those loaded! But I'll look for more later and post them if I find any :)

Debbie,
a beautiful thread!! Indian pipes are my favorite too.
Your "slug heading for lunch" reminded me of the yellow North American form of the Fly Agaric/Amanita muscaria. And also perhaps "a pretty contrast with the green"?

I was wondering:

Perhaps we could have this thread moved into this forum?

RUK, if you post the link on the Dave's Garden thread where this forum was asked for then Terry will most likely move it for you.

Terry moved it!! :-)

RUK, glad you enjoyed the pictures :) Since Indian Pipes is one of your favorites also, I've been meaning to take a picture of this and post it somewhere??? I just can't remember where or when someone asked for it! LOL This is a one of paintings that my husband's grandmother painted - we have it hanging in our living room, among others, but this one is my favorite :)

per wallaby's request, I found a few more :)

This log was well off the beaten path, but the white of these in the dark woods really stood out and I had to grab a picture

Out of the deep woods and back into the sunlight revealed a lichen that is commonly found growing with the always popular British Soldiers
