Was wondering how long they take to germinate.. I 'sowed' mine about 2 months ago and have yet to see anything.
Has anyone grown Cyathea medullaris from spore?
GEG, how did you sow them? I have been growing hardy ferns for 2 years now and every species I have started from spores has germinated ( not sure of terminology for spores) I use bottom heat and sterile seedling mix. they have all appeared in about a months time. I haven't done the Dicksonia or the Cyathea yet ( haven't been able to score some spores) my Dickonia are 3 years old but haven't shown any spores yet. hostajim1
I sowed them in a Trader Joe's Cocoa Almond container (clear plastic) in about 4" of sterilized seed starting mix. I haven't used bottom heat as this species is native to a very cool area.
The only other spore I've sown was from a holly fern that was growing near where I work. It germinated in about 2 months outside and I have many small frondlings now.
