CANNA ?
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.z
Loved the photos Kell. Please explain the "gift from your local tip" part?? What does that mean? The map on that cow is insanely funny.
I think you have Canna x generalis 'Tropicanna' (Phaison). With its orange flowers and striped leaves, it is one of the showiest of all cannas. The red flowered canna is probably Canna x generalis 'Australia' which has a darker burdundy leaf, no variegation. Canna x generalis 'Tropicanna Gold' is the one with the yellow and green leaves, and an orange flower with a yellow rim. Canna x generalis 'Bengal Tiger' (Praetoria) looks very similar, except the stem is red and the flower is solid orange. I know that because I have TG and not BT. Mine is in a pot of sphagnum peat moss, crossing my fingers it will survive winter.
Hi PrairieGirlZ5
Thank you for your reply / response,
A gift from your local tip means,
It was free.
We have an open tip 'Rubbish Dump'
Where all our house hold waste goes.
We separate it into two lots,
Green waste and the rest.
When you go to the green waste.
Its all scattered all over the ground.
Some times I come home with more than I take.
Not often though.
When I saw the Canna rhizomes ,
I knew what they were But not what colour.
Often I will pick up 50 or 100 brand new plastic pots.
So thats where the cannas started.
Thanks again for asking.
Ah, "local tip" as in dumpster, makes sense. Nice to get the plastic pots, you do sterilize them in very hot, scalding water before use? (They can carry insects and diseases) That is the best kind of find ~ free! Now I am jealous LOL.
I'm baack!! LOL. Glad you get free cannas and pots. I get lots of pots but no cannas from work
Perfect sized pots. I have a hard time getting some that size.
ginger - Lucky you! No pests to worry about, and nice big pots. Where do you work? LOL Nice truck too.
I`m an Artist and work from home.
So that is your ORIGINAL oil painting in the first pic? very kewl! Sorry I'm so slow. LOL I love koalas, they look so cuddly.
That is so juicy, mmmm.
Ginger, you need to paint that last pic. It deserves your talent.
OK, I`ll do it.
You can expect a progress report.
Cool!!
I noticed in Park Seed Catalog they have a new white canna grown from seed. It is one of a dwarf series with other colors grown from seed.
Have any of you tried these? Are they worth ordering? They indicate some have won awards in trials.
I can't get that close with my camera. I have tried and it comes out blurry.
That`s what I like about this Forum lanewalk
Always something new.
I will start my search for the white one today.
Thanks heaps for that Info.
how bout doing a paiting of me?
OK, Post your Pic up. And I`ll have a go.
Minus the paper bag.
Oh yeah, phicks
Try making it a really big pic.
Gives me something to work with.
Just leave it full size.
Most cameras have 3 settings .
Put it on the highest res. Kell
You forgot Mr. T Kell. LOL. Paul, your face only is allowed.
It would look ok as a mosaic but in the pic it seems to have lost alot of its detail. But the first one is awesome.
2 hours? Dang Kell, that looks fantastic. It does seem that a lot of orange is falling on my "to buy" list this year. Loved the photos above, too. Especially the real close up.
Thanks vadap,
Yeah that close up is from 1/2 " away.
At that distance, The flash dosen`t even work .
If you like close ups . Try this.

Like the fuzzy face, but don't think I would like to meet him.
I have at least 3 of them living in the house.
They move about from behind all my paintings.
When I take the paintings down to clean them,
One will jump out and say hello. Crikey M8 scary.
Vadap, I with you there.
Those two Hairy things at the front are his fangs.
His face Starts where his eyes are.
Can you see he has 8 eyes ?
4 side by side at the front.
Then another row of 4 behind them.
Yeah, I saw where they were talking about that on the web page. I can handle spiders, they don't really bother me to much. It's the snakes that scare the bejesus out of me. Fortunately, I can go work around my cannas(when they are growing!) and not have to worry about that. Don't even like non-venomus(sp) ones- bad experiances in childhood. Heck, I've even swam with sharks. Guess I would need a dog like Jack to take care of that.
By the way these are now 19 days old.
I first posted them on the 4 Jan.
Maybe they like to torment you. lol
Here is todays Pic.
Ummmm, Ginger? You forgot the picture. LOL
Funny, No one noticed.
Maybe my camera is taking blanks ?
