I originaly posted this PIC in artisans.
But it was really meant for here.
Can someone please tell me what kind of canna this is?
It was a Gift from our local tip.
I saw a large root ball on the ground, and thought it looked OK.
5 weeks in the ground and this is what I got.
Actually I got 6 very nice plants from it.
.
CANNA ?
Well, since it is a drawing and there are Koalas in the picture, I would guess a Canna Austarlia. Mine are very dark burgandy almost black leaves and they are long and slender like the ones in the picture.
do you have a photo?
Tammie
That is a PIC. of the REAL PLANT .
I Just stuck one of my paintings behind for effect. :-)
See the plant in a pot?
When this canna flowers,
does any one know what sort of flower it might get?
I'm not a Canna expert but it reminds me of Canna Lily 'Tropicanna'

edited to say the leaves change colours as the plant matures.

My apologies.. didn't mean to offend you. Tropicanna is definitely a possibility. My Tropicannas though have the leaves much closer together... probably just a difference in growing conditions. Mine grow more 'bushy' but are very young plants... this is their first year.

Lucky you! Its a beautiful canna.

Now those look like Tropicannas in that setting with the light. I am sure you will enjoy them. I am constantly surprised by the different colors in the leaves every day.

Hi LhasaLover
Too true. One night I even went out with a torch
just to look at it one more time before bed.
Talking to all you enthusiasts has given me a whole new interest.
i think i would crap my pants if i saw that in my cannas. and does it have an animal in its stomach?
It sure does,
It just ate a Prize hen.
You'd probably have more luck asking that ? here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/oz/all/
Thanks for that Lilypon.
So that`s My next port of call.
Is Tropicanna Gold the same as Bengal Tiger? They look very similar to me, maybe an expert will weigh in.
I googled it and they look very similsr.
I have only been keeping Cannas for 2 months.
'maybe an expert will weigh in.'
Lets hope.
Have you seen Tropicanna Black yet? It's a beaut. I ordered one last year, but it got backordered and is supposed to be sent this spring.
no they are not the same.
Great pic. there kwz7NC
How long before mine might flower ?
Is that mulch on the ground or pine needles ?
ginger, I'd estimate that it will take 2-3 months before you see a bloom, possibly sooner. This was taken in July, and I had planted in this spot in April or May. The one that is blooming there is from a plant I had for two years. I feed mine with bone and blood meal, and they bloom nicely.
These are pine needles on the ground, which I used both as mulch and as ground cover to separate the gardens from the rest of the grassy yard.
Thanks for the compliment, I'm new at this. May have some other pics if I can find them..
May have some other pics if I can find them..

My Outlaws have some large pine trees [Slash Pine]
