Cottagey?

Texas/Okla central b, United States(Zone 7b)

a cottage garden consist of a mixture of old fashioned and new style perennials and annuals growing close together at various heights and textures..... multiplying and self seeding.... with plants for butterflys and birds...plants with heavy fragrance..a little water for the birds, a little mud for the butterflys..
The joy is in the ever changing color and plant diversity.

So well described, garden looks lovely but I have a question. You said 'a little mud for the butterflys...... this is new to me. We have a swan plant for Monarch butterflys which they strip to the bare bones but I have never heard of mud for these pretty little flyers in the garden.

Ferrymead, what is a swan plant? It sounds beautiful! It also sounds so not zone 5. :(
Butterflies like manure too, of all things. They need the salts.
