Sprouting in my Grape Ivy

Pioneer, CA

Last week I added a hand full of my compost to a Grape Ivy house plant, and this morning I noticed the top of the soil has new sprouts about 3 inches long growing there. I would love to know what's actually growing, I have visions of a huge beautiful tomato
producing fruit about Feb.(just kidding) I must have made some good stuff. Can you start seeds in compost? After this experience I'm thinking it could be done.

I must admit that my compost is full of surprises like that. Those I like I keep and those I don't dissapear. I doubt that compost is the best things to start seeds in. I prefer peat.

S. I've never started seeds in peat, but I think I will this year. I've used soil blocks but really don't like them very much. My brother on the other hand thinks they're great. It's such a pain to get all the stuff together to make them and it's hard to keep them moist all the time, it's way too dry here. I'd lilke to know exactly how you do it.

Soak the peat and plant the seed, keep it moist with a spray bottle and wait.
