From Garden gate magazine, here is a tidy way to enjoy plants close at hand. Would be useful for herbs near the kitchen......http://snipurl.com/10y94

Yuska,
I get GardenGate. What issue is it in?
It came in yesterday in the e-newsletter. The URL won't carry (listed as "private" which I didn't know). Here is the printed text - could not pick up the picture or the construction drawing.
Railing planter for a small deck
A planter on your deck railing is more than just a decoration. It can provide you a little privacy and an opportunity to bring flowers up to eye or nose level to enjoy them better — all without taking up any precious floor space.
This railing becomes a deck planter using aluminum or plastic rain guttering. Before heading to the store, measure the lengths and count the number of corner pieces you’ll need. At each end you’ll need one end cap. Plan on one bracket every 4 ft. You’ll want two bolts, washers and nuts for each bracket. Measure the thickness of your railing support so you can buy bolts long enough to go through it. You can see how the bracket attaches in the illustration below.
Mark the placement of the brackets, drill holes in the railing and install the brackets. After they’re in place, cut the gutter sections to fit and clip them into the brackets. Drill ˝-in. holes in the bottom, 1 ft. apart, for drainage.
Let's see if this will work: http://snipurl.com/10z0j or this:
