Making my own windows

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Is making my own windows in my garage/shop even a feasible thing to do? My woodworking skills are better than average, and I'm a fairly quick learner, but here are my main concerns. Can I do it any cheaper at home than what they would cost to buy? Is it at all possible to make efficient double glazed windows, including filling the internal space with some inert gas?

If "yes" to any of the above, are there any good "How to" materials describing the necessary tools and steps?

Thanks in advance.

Scott
