I HAVE HEARD THAT PROPAGATING CLEMATIS FROM SEEDS CAN BE VERY DIFFICULT. A FRIEND GAVE ME A SMALL JARFUL OF SEEDS. DOES ANYONE HAVE ADVICE ON HOW TO BEST GERMINATE THEM? I LIVE NEAR OCALA FLORIDA AND WE ARE ALREADY STARTING TO GET COLD NIGHTS IN THE 30 TO 40 DEGREE TEMPS. I WAS TOLD TO START THEM INDOORS THIS WINTER.
I JUST WAS GIVEN SEEDS
Brian Collingwood has a great informative site on growing Clematis from seeds...Check out his site: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bcollingwood/

You might want to try germinating a few seeds outdoors via the wintersowing method. There is a Wintersowing Forum on DG http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/coldsow/all/ but to get you started, read through the information at the Wintersown website first. http://www.wintersown.org
Misty please dont type in all caps. its a form of shouting in the computer world. some people might take offense and not answer your questions at all.
you have some good advice above on how to start them in the links above.
Brian: Your hybridizing work with Clematis is nothing short of phenomenal! You've created so many gorgeous seedlings. The color, shape and size of G173H 'Nina Banham', G48C 'Monique', G55A, G55E, G164 'Moira' and your new plant from C. texensis G155B are amazing!!!
