Coonera pygmy maple

Youngstown, OH

Hi, I want to know if this cultavar is a rare one? What is the difference between the red pygmy and the coonera pygmy maple? Thnaks

Go to plant files and on left side arrow down to japanese maples then just look up under "c" and "r". Both are described in length. Neither is very "rare" depending on your sources... Both are drastically differnt the red pigmy being larger and with Linearilobum ( strap) leaves while coonara has palmatum leaf form and a true dwarf. David

Butch - neither one of these trees is rare. But some trees are are common because they work well. I think that Sango Kaku is an example of one of those trees that is a great tree and the fact that it is common doesn't make it less desireable.

The real question is what shape would you like the tree to be, what size and what sun and wind exposure. Then what colors.... you get the drift. If either of these trees fits the bill, then by all means, indulge. :-)
