Banana

Alpharetta, GA(Zone 7b)

I have few little red banana growing on the small plant outside, and several other kinds acquired from Purto Rico but lost tags. I took some picture to ID. Anyone know these names and wether they are hardy here in zone7? Thanks.

The red bananas lead me to believe that you have a Musa velutina. I can't say for the two unfruited plants. I've seen a Musa velutina surviving planted outdoors in Fayetteville, but that's a little warmer than Alpharetta, and it was an older, more-established plant.

Hope that helps.

th red is a musa one. we have them here. they do seem to do okay in the winter.

i just mulch mine heavily and let it go. the babies i usually put in the green house. the musa seeds are easy to geminate. so you can get plenty of babies from it.
