Thanks, Jeanne. She's still growing in a 1 gallon container on my deck. Her root system is finally well developed enough for her to get a permanent spot in my garden.

Oh Goodie Shirley..she will be even more beautiful now that she can grow free!!..Jeanne

The minute you said that "she can grow free", I had the tune "Born Free" by Don Black & John Barry, going round & round in my head. Anyone remember this beautiful song, story & movie?

Born free, as free as the wind blows
As free as the grass grows
Born free to follow your heart

Live free and beauty surrounds you
The world still astounds you
Each time you look at a star

Stay free, where no walls divide you
You're free as the roaring tide
So there's no need to hide

Born free, and life is worth living
But only worth living
'Cause you're born free

She probably started singing that song too..when you said you were gonna give her her own home..LMBO!!...Jeanne

My Wisley is blooming again, too, which is a relief since it got cut off at the base earlier this summer. The odd thing is that all the new growth has no clinging tendrils--those curlique things that hold the vine to the trellis. I've had to tie it in place. Hopefully, those tendrils will come back next year. I'm just glad it survived whatever critter cut it down.

Lovely bloom on that Ramona.

Thanks everyone.

Ramona is described as a lavender-blue (with a few variations on this theme) with deep red anthers on C.O.T.W. http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=214 For the time being, I have grown her in a container on my deck which receives primarily morning & mid-day sun. When I move her to a permanent location, I will try to site it in a spot that receives sunshine all day. Hopefully, she will then show her beautiful veining.

Glad to hear that Wisley is blooming again. Don't worry if it gets cut off at the base, because the root system is still growing beneath the soil. It obviously rewarded you with a lovely show of flowers. Do you have a picture to share with us?

I meant to post this earlier. Oops. I really like this cultivar. I planted it with a Blaze of Glory rose from Jackson and Perkins, which is a coral-red climber. Unfortunately, that has failed to thrive. I dug it out and potted it up, fully expecting it to continue to decline, but now it's going great guns. I'll decide what to do with it in the spring. I'm still hoping for this bold color combination to work.

Wisley is a lovely Clematis! It will look stunning combined with your Rose.

Thanks. It sure is nice to see blooms right now. It buffers the effects of the cold and gray weather.

You're so right about blooms brightening up the cold & gray weather. The winds have been really blowing for the past 2 days and ushering in a lot of chilly temps. Bbbrrr!
