Can Coir Liners Be Re-used?

Thornton, IL

Can the coir liners that are used in hanging baskets be re-used? I'm removing the plants I had in these, some for over-wintering inside, some are planted in the garden. I know the liners can be composted, but can I reuse them next year? And is there anything I should watch out for? Thanks.

I tried reusing one for a 2nd season and halfway thru the season it was in pretty bad shape. Ever since, I just buy new ones each yr and compost old ones.

Thanks vossner, after posting this I read online that they were reusable, but still had my doubts. The roots grow into them, so I thought there might be pest or disease issues as well. Did yours just disintegrate?

yes, pretty much. I should add mine came from Walmart, don't know if that explains their short life.

Doubt it, but mine came from HD. I'll keep one and try it maybe. But I'll be prepared just in case.
