Is there a site to help me determine which of my peppers will come true from seed? I have yellow bell peppers, a capsicum frutescens purple chili pepper, jalepeno, and anahiem peppers. I'd love to be able and save the seeds for next year.
harvesting seeds fromo peppers
There has been some discussion of this in the pepper forum. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/655267/ . All peppers will cross pollinate except C. pubescens. If you don't know your specific cultivars, you may also have have hybrids in your mix. You can save the seed, but who knows what the offspring will be. Particularly those which are supposed to be sweet peppers like the bells can pick up some heat.
Umm. Spicy bell peppers. I should try that.
If you want to know what you are getting try Mexibel or Fajita bell. I grew the MexiBel http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/82839/index.html and they did well. maybe a little less heat than the average jalapeno.
I think I am growing something very similiar to that pepper. It was great in salsa. That one cross pollinates right?
