Are dahlias considered herbaceous?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

They do not have woody stems and die back each year? THANKS

Well since no one has an opinion and I see they are both ways in the PlantFiles, I guess I will say they are on my dahlia entries.

THANKS.

I just googled it as I should have done to begin with and I was rght, they are herbaceous in case anyone else wants to know how to enter them correctly.

"Any of the 12–20 species of tuberous-rooted herbaceous plants that make up the genus Dahlia, in the composite family, native to higher elevations of Mexico and Central America."

Sorry Kell, I didn't see your note. You would have undoubtedly gotten a much more prompt and thoughtful reply on the Dahlia forum, but I concur with your assessment - they are herbaceous (at least for most of us ;o)

I didn't even think of the Dahlia Forum Terry, why I didn't I have no clue. I was just so intent on entering them right I guess. As soon a my pictures are uploaded, I will go back and add it on the ones I omitted it in their description.

Tonight I am trying to ID a few pictures, takes me forever it seems.
