National Velvet

I realized the other day I let Maeve get to age 13 without a copy of National Velvet. It's such a horsey teen girl book. I found a copy at our local used book store and since she is in the middle of something else, decied to reread it. Some of it is just lyrical.

One phrase which I remembered from lo, many many moons ago was..."Velvet dreamt of bits the way other women dream of jewelry."

Have you guys read it?

Remember the film that came out (was it the 70's?) called "International Velvet"?
