Hypertufa project suggestions?

I need some thoughts or suggestions for making a hypertufa tube to cover a well pipe. Would you really need a form to pour the tufa or could you just use that steel mesh cloth bent into shape and build it up right onto the mesh? The idea is to top the tube and make a bird bath
