Clematis recta 'Purpurea'

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

Perfect timing - a new forum for Clematis and I've got a question! Anyone have any experience with Clematis recta 'Purpurea'? I've been looking at this one because I'm a nut for dark foliage plants and this one fits the bill. Seems like most information indicates it only grows to 3', more bushlike than a climber? Any information would be appreciated - will help me make a decision - do I really want this plant?

Shirley, thank you - had already been there :( Was hoping I could find someone with personal experience growing this Clematis, i.e. someone who would push me over the edge and tell me it's fantastic! I had thought it was fragrant but everything I've read states "somewhat fragrant" - I was hoping that it would have the beautiful fragrance of Sweet Autumn Clematis with drop dead foliage to boot. Hoping someone else will respond who has grown it?
