Ideas for fun aprons

Any of you ever sew fun aprons as gifts? I am going to make one for a family friend who received lots of great kitchen equipt. for wedding gift and is not much of a cook.I told her as soon as the apron arrives she will be obligated to take on recipes et al. I was thinking of sewing boa like stuff on it but then it would not wash so maybe lace, and fringe. The Mill End Store had a pair of rubber gloves 'decorated' with boa and button on the cuff and a friend of mine copied that for a shower gift.
