In the process of weeding we also discovered this growing. This is really neat looking and we didn't pull it out. Any ideas of what it is?

What is it? Part two
When I was growing up we called them little pigs cause they had a funny tuper thing at the roots. We dug them up just to find the little pigs. Don't know the real name of it but I bet if you posted uned Identification they would tell you real fast.

if it is in a woodsy part might be a wild ginger

Definately wild ginger. IMHO a keeper! They do look like Cyclamin, but the leaves would be dormant now. -Ais.
Thanks, based on the input from DG, pictures I've found and the information I've read, it seems like it might be a wild ginger. It definitely was left in place. Unlike the stuff in the other picture I posted which did get pulled out immediately after I took the picture. Based on where this is growing I think the previous owner might have been planning to use it as a ground cover.
