Luna Moth (Actias luna)
We caught a few of these by mixing a small amount of beer into some black strap molasses. The molasses with beer was hand applied to the side of a tree about six feet off of the ground. Night time captures were noted late evening to about midnight. Our experiences were all in the deep mountain areas where we live.
Oops! That was back in 1960's. They may be endangered now. If so leave them alone. Enjoy the pictures of others.
