I had planned to plant my peony in a spot near the house, but I've discovered a large tree root going through it (the area, not the peony). Since iris take up less root room, would they be okay there? I've heard that tree roots take nourishments away from flowers. This is at least 10 feet away from any trees, and I'd like to plant something there, but if it won't be good for the health of the plants, I guess I'll just put a container plant in that place.
iris and tree roots
Are you planting bearded or beardless iris? I have my bearded planted in and around several trees and they do just fine.
They're tall bearded.
II have iris around two trees for years and have never had any issues with growth. They continue to multiply at an excelerated pace, the tree too.
This is good to know! Thanks. I'll make plans to plant some iris there then. You have to dig deep for peonies, but I've found a place on the other side of the back door to put them.
