I have dug about half of the irises. I need to move them to a drier area, they are currently at the corner of the house where the gutter overflows and the down spout comes out. My hubby plans on doing major yard removal in the spring, and reworking of the beds. Can this be stored for the winter and planted in the spring or should I pot them for the winter?
Now what?
Yes, you can plant rhizomes without any visible increase. Some will sprout, some not, Yours look very firm and healthy so i would say they have a good chance of growing into an iris plant.

How about potting them up and then burying pots in some corner of the garden (veggie garden) where they will be out of the way of the downspout and can have a normal -cold- winter. If you do this, be sure to bury the pots totally. You don't want the pot lips to be visible.
