treatment of divided irises?

Hi: I am digging and moving some iris that are not getting enough sun. Of course, I am going to share some with my daughter and DIL. Maybe also my niece. How long, after I dig them, can I hold them over? Should I put them in a paper bag. I don't know where to get mesh bags.

They can stay out of the ground for quite a while...I put my excess in paper bags, marked with names or colors or whatever. I have some in paper bags from last year that are sprouting green growth but I don't recommend keeping them that long! Keep them out of direct sunlight and they should be fine til you're ready to plant.
