Daylily Nurseries in the ORV Areaso many!!

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi everybody---

I was looking around for daylily sources near my home and came upon the Garden Watchdog 'Advanced Search'.

It's pretty neat-- you can put in the kind of plant you are looking for-- daylilies, iris, tropicals, whatever, and it searches for those nurseries by state.

I was surprised to find so many Daylily nurseries nearby.

That's a cool resource. Didn't know you could do that.

Hi tobasco, its me. I decided to talk to my reversed life friend (you). I saw the day lily conversations and decided to horn in because they are one of the plants that seem to florish anywhere (except my present yard which the only thing florishing seems to be the gophers. real fat ones. In fact I think I live on the nest. I planted daylilys which did great in Lancaster but I moved 15 miles and my bulbs and plants suddenly die. Then I saw this rolly fat gopher laying on his back with a beer in his hand and rubbing his belly, smiling at me. I miss Ohio. Theres no place like home, theres no place like home.

LOL well, that's a good gopher story! No doubt true, and his cousins live here in Cincinnati in my yard, I think--they haven't emigrated to CA yet!

When we lived in Pasadena we didn't grow many DLs either. I don't know why exactly, except that it seemed like there were other garden plants as easy to grow that DLs competed with for garden space --if you can keep the gopher population down, I guess...

I was talking to our local DL hybridizer and he said that DLs are very popular in the midwest and east, but not so popular to grow in FLA (where ironically many of the hi-powered hybridizers are) because the soil will not support them without costly amendments and the watering is so expensive... Our DLs can basically survive on rainwater unless you have those pricey ones that you want to dote on.

I hope you find something to cure your homesickness. In a month or two you will be happy to be in clear and sunny CA...I am already getting tired of the dreary skies this Labor Day Weekend.

Ya you,as my grandma says, tell true. I do love California in so many ways, I just wished that I lived in Pasadena, like you did. It is so pretty there and historic I Iiked it because some of the older areas remind me of Ohio. I don`t know if I could even live there again. Now that I know that my gophers have cousins over there, it`s looking doubtfull that I could. We went to the Nascar Race yesterday over here and had so much fun, I forget that the weather there impedes your ability to do a lot of stuff day and night and all year round, despite your great gardens there, your gardening is somewhat of a season there as opposed to here where it is almost a full time year round job. All better now. thanks. Interesting about the fla. thing w/ the day lilies, I thought if they grow here, they grow everywhere.
