Deterring Raccoons

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Ok, I'm officially ticked off! The raccoon gets every tomato before I do! I was even going to pick it a bit early and have it ripen in the house, but he gets those too!!

What do you folks do to deter the masked marauder?

This year i had raccoons on the early sweet corn for the first time in about a dozen years. I set up an all night radio station and put red pepper on some of the ears.

Next year plant pumpkin seeds at the top/bottom/sides of your corn rows.

I did at the raccoon "entrance" end. .............Still wondering what that does.

They don't like the feel of the stalks/leaves under their tender tootsies.

Especially the sharp thorns.......I also trained the vines to grow up/down the rows as well as surrounding the patch (about 8 feet out all around the corn patch).

A friend of mine had raccoons, fishing in his Koi pond so he set out a radio nearby. It didn't work until he set it on a country and western station. Honest! Or at least that's what he told us.

LOL! They must be Hip-Hop 'Coons!

San Francisco Bay Ar, CA(Zone 9b)

Either that or they are too busy dancing the texas two-step and country swing to eat the tomatos. :)
