cannot grow ferns outside

Palm Beach Gardens, FL(Zone 10b)

Hi all. I'm in NJ and have trouble growing ferns outside. They always die. I put my potted ferns out in the summer. What am I doing wrong. I put the few I've tried in a shady spot. They are expensive around here and I just can't keep buying them and having them die.

do a google on "ferns for cold(er) climates". that may be of help. I google this for southern climates and got good info. I do believe there are suitable cultivars for you.

If your potted ferns are dying outside, maybe you are cooking the roots. I cooked some tropicals, thinking they would like our summer.

The ferns in pots are doing very well. It's when I try to plant them in the garden. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Do you know the names of the ferns you are trying to grow in the garden? Some tropicals just won't be happy with climate swings, while others need the seasonal change. Try the indigenous ferns (ones that grow wild) such as the Royal, Ostrich, Interrupted, Cinnamon, Maidenhair. These are tough plants.
