I have two very tall romaine lettuce plants, and I would love to make a salad to go with our Italian dinner. What do you think?
Is there any danger in eating lettuce that has bolted?
Will not hurt you, but you may not like the taste and texture. It can get a bit tough and sometimes a bit bitter. Nibble on a few leaves before you commit to a salad.
I eat lettuce that has gone to seed and am still here. I do agree with Farmerdill, you should taste a leaf to see if the flavor is okay with you. It won't hurt you, but you might not like it. Betty
Oh thanks so much. I tried a leaf, and it is indeed bitter. However it might be okay in a salad. Think I will give it a try.
Bitter lettuce goes great with oil and vinegar dressing! (But I'd add a few more ingredients to your salad to mellow and/or add to the overall flavor.)
Shoe.
