I thought I had posted this someplace and got an ID on it, but I sure can't find it.
It's a vine/ground cover. It has pink, sometimes bright colored flowers. I am leaving these to grow and even considering pulling some and placing it in other places in my beds. I really like the looks.
I can't find it in my Fla Natives book. Any idea?
Thanks,
Molly
Ground cover vine
Hi Molly!!
Take a look at Galactia, either Galactia volubilis aka Downy Milkpea
http://www.plantatlas.usf.edu/images.asp?plantID=3751
or Galactia regularis aka Eastern Milkpea
http://www.plantatlas.usf.edu/images.asp?plantID=3552#
Stacy,
Those certainly look very similar, and maybe it's the way the photo is taken, but the ones here on the property seem to have no desire to be or climb upright. They remain creeping along the ground.
Did you look at this one? What do you think? http://regionalconservation.org/ircs/database/plants/PlantPage.asp?TXCODE=Galapine
So many other things growing out here are named with "Pineland".
Any thoughts?
Molly
:^)))
Interestingly Galactia pinetorum is a synonym for Galactia volubilis but the plants don't look the same to me. The leaves (in your linked photo) are too pointy so is the longer lip of the flower. I don't know if I'm using those words right LOL but if you get my meaning...
I know that I tend to point people at the ISB Plant Atlas more often than not but I figure they have spent their lives researching native plants...surely they know them better than most
I'm going to look around a little because now I want to know which plant is in your link...Thanks! LOL
Even though I can't find a photo anywhere, I am going to go with the Soft Milkpea. It seems this is a ground cover type plant, has tubers, which this does, and it grows in the sand hills and pinelands.
I concluded this simply by deduction, it can't be the other two.
