My Favorite (compost) Things

My Favorite (Compost) Things - to the tune of the song from 'The Sound of Music'

Raindrops in buckets and whiskers on kittens,
Hot turned compost under an old mat mitten,
Scrap hay mini-rounds tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things.

Black plastic composter & noxious green weeds
Corn stalks & summer lettuce going to seed,
Brown old scrap pallets tied up with strings
These are few of my favorite things.

Wiggle worms in bins and cold burnt wood ashes,
Compost that stays on my nose & eyelashes,
Gulley washer rains that run into springs,
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the gnat bites
When the bee stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad.

3-bin composter and chipper-shredding,
Silage and hay forks and old chicken bedding
White feathery mold that spreads out like wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Sunflower stems and an egg-laying flock
A big white dog to chase the chicken hawk
Garlic stems tied up with strings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Green grass clippings and kitchen throwaways
Straw colored corn stalks and spoiled scrap hay
Bolting spinach late in the spring
These are a few of my favorite things

Yellow wheelbarrow and stale chicken poop,
Coffee grounds, dead tree limbs, and a flat shovel scoop
Pick-up truck Loadhandler™ tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

When the horsefly bites
When the sweat bee stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad.

Puts Julie Andrews to shame.
Looks like you did a lot of work on that, very cute. Thanks.

For those who are fans of the compost genre and have not seen it:

Jozeeben thank you for arriving to give us compost culture! Being like you a poet I have waited long to share in the Poetic comPost. My poem for today: sung to camptown races
Froggie went a composting he did go
cram-bo
Froggie went a composting he did go
all the compost day.
Gonna stack all day
gonna stack all night
Froggie went a composting he did go
All the compost day.
It sure is good to have an equal on this artless forum. LOL

Artless forum?!@#^% LOL -- Who cannot appreciate the beauty of dung? I'm going to have to start wearing my MP3 player to drown out these silly jingles. Please post a picture of Froggie composting - I did find one skewered with my hay fork one turning this spring (how sad). Snakes are fun, too, & gotta love those lizzards. Forgot the picture whisker kittens

As Mozart said as he was erasing his symphony " Don't bother me, I'm decomposing!"

Good thing froggies a good swimmer. Most people would drown in all that liguid. Or decompose . . . LOL. Here's a ditty from Steve Solomon:
"En extremis, I repeat the old Yankee marching chant like a mantra: Make do! Wear it out! When it is gone, do without! Bum, Bum! Bum bi Dum! Bum bi di Dum, Bum bi Dum!"
