Inquiring minds want to know

Oviedo, FL(Zone 9b)

I have burgundy sweet potato vines in several containers. I have used them infrequently in the past and they never took off like they have this year. this is probably due to all the rain we had. Imagine my surprise to see that one of them was actually blooming this morning. It had two pink flowers on it! Will these shrivel and die once them bloom? Do they get sweet potatoes on? should I deadhead the flowers? They are really nice and full right nowand beautifully colored and I would hate to lose them. Would anyone who has been successful with these let me know.

There is one cultivar of 'blackie' that I know of that blooms. It's just a little bonus and means nothing except that it is a pretty bloom. Just leave them and enjoy them. They will fall off. The tuber is growing right now in the ground from the plant. If you dig up the plant you will see the tuber.

I think someone over on Vines & climbers recently posted some pics of their blooming sweet potato vine if you want to check it out.
