Heat effects on a computer

Our house is reaching 95F in the corner where my computer sits. It's fan runs for hours in the late afternoon. I have taken to shutting it all the way down until the house starts cooling off. Is that a good idea, and will the heat harm the computer? It is a brand new Dell.
( We do not have AC).
