Coleus Internet Sources....

I thought it would be a good idea to post some companies that we've had great luck with as many people happen in here asking for internet companies. We have all had rather bad luck with a few companies, and I think it best if we keep this on a positive note. We can post on GardenWatchdog our good and bad feelings towards a company.

brinda...i believe you named them all!!

just wanted to mention and many may already know, i can't say enough good about singing springs. they are the cultivator's of many of the new coleus we see in this county. while their prices may just be a bit higher, it is far worth the extra 2.00 a plant to a "true" cultivar of the coleus. i sometimes wonder why they don't go after all the others that propagate their plants, which incidentally happens to be everyone on that list!

and of course, floridasun farms any one needing large volume will receive giant perfect plants although limited cultivars it's the ONLY place to go for excellent prices and plants! (one of their plants equaled 3 times in size anyone that is listed on brinda's list). i know i was the first to try them and i will be placing ALL of my large orders for next year with them!

i just wanted to thank you again for this thread. i can't tell you how many time's i referred back to it for easy "look up" purposes. although i have all those sites saved...this has made my life easier!! i wish it was kept on the top as hap suggested!!!

I was thinking of this thread the other day. I think that I will dmail Mystic http://mystic.scifstore.com/module/store/ and ask her if she will let me know what coleus she'll be offering for next year. That way I will know how to order. I was extremely pleased with her site and the plants too. They were small but very healthy and sooooo cheap! Maybe she can give me a list of what she's going to have available, surely she will know by Feb or March.

Brinda I was very pleased with the plants I got from Mystic too. And all of the plants are thriving! I would love to know what she will be offering for next year. I will certainly order from her again.

I sent my order in to Rosy Dawn on Monday I think it was; ship date is supposed to be April 2--can't wait!!! I've never mail ordered coleus before. How do coleus usually fare????

coleus is so easy to propagate, Patty, I wouldn't think there would be any problem....

Oh thanks for the update Melissa. I should be getting mine this week; they ship out tomorrow. You are the second person who has commented on the nice size of their plants. About how long did it take for you to receive them after they were shipped? You probably had the first shipment to go out--March 26th ship date right?

Yes, I had a March 26 ship date. We were having super weather, and had to email and ask for an early ship date, they said fine as long as I didn't complain they were dead when they got here! LOL
I got them the day after they shipped, but, that is normal for me for anything from Michigan or Wisconsin.

Let me go take a picture after they've been in their pots one week.

hey those are impressive; thanks for posting the picture--I CAN'T WAIT FOR MINE TO GET HERE!!!!!! Were yours wilted at all when you first opened your package? I don't figure they would be if it only took one day--lucky you--you are much closer to MI than I am. I am hoping mine will do okay on the longer trip. I've kinda worried about mail ordering coleus for that reason, but I figured I'd never know until I tried so we shall see. I'm keeping my fingers crossed

NO, they weren't wilted at all, just cramped from being in those tubes. LOL They put a plastic baggie around the rootball, and then roll the plant in corrugated cardboard. You can easily pull the plant out from the bottom.

I'm surprized I didn't see any mention of COLOR FARM here. Nursery owner Vern Ogren published his first catalog of heirloom coleus in 1985. He doesn't have as many pictures on his web site as I would like to see, but he has some and you can order online. He has cultivated many fine varities.

I have ordered from them and have been very pleased. I also picked up the phone one day and called him and had a nice chat about coleus. It surprized me that he answered and was willing to talk. He must be very busy.
