The boring borer bores on....

McGregor, IA(Zone 4b)

Well, got all of my bearded irises dug; next is japanese and siberians. Yep, they are being bored too. The "sawdust" by the JI's is an interesting red orange color. The Sib's borers are smaller than the TB's - maybe only because they are less well nourished....I figure I will make a clean sweep of things and plant all of the irises in one spot so they can be taken care of easier. The JI's and the Sib's like moisture, so I think I will keep them in
water until replanting...

I ask myself why am I doing this? Now it has become a test of character!

For grub and borer control I use two products. Bayer Advance Season Long Grub control with Merit(r) which I put on the end of March sooner if it gets warm usually a week or two after the lime and fertilizer.

Then about mid May I put on
Triazicide and broad spectrum insect control helps with other pest and gets some emerging japanese beetles before they are adults and also helps with borers and wire worms which can do more damage.

end of august I reapply the Bayer to get any hatching white grubs.
at the same time I have a compost bin so I add compost tea to all beds, the ignore bed gets the dregs if anything left. LOL
