Lilium langkongense

North East England, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

This is a fantastic lily - it has had about 7 flowers and is putting up new stems this year away from the main plant.

Oooh, what a beauty! Is the scent nice?

Tulsa, OK

Beautiful! Is there a common name?

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Oh Galanth, this is one I want too! de Jagers had it a few years ago, very expensive, but they disappeared. I have seen it somewhere else, not sure where.

It looks much better with a 'proper' photo!

Cramlington, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Fantastic! Every year when I see your photos of this plant I'm just enamored.

An interesting observation about lankongense:
Some of you may remember me posting this photo earlier. The petals didn't recurve as much, and in the more typical manner for the species. That was last year's pic.

However that exact same plant this year does exhibit the "normal" ball form with completely recurve petals, just like Galanthophile's.

Beautiful! If only I could fine more room, I'd have to consider this one. Thanks for sharing. I'm also curious to know if it's fragrant.

Yes this one is scented! Just been out to check - red hot today! I don't think it has a common name.

This is the 'common name'

I wish they were that cheap here, more like £11 or more.

Oh but worth every penny!

Wallaby - Edrom nurseries have this plant for £7. Have a look at www.edromnurseries.co.uk

Would one of you please pronounce Langkongense for me? :) I keep thinking it sounds like the Steven King's "The Langoliers." Warped, I know. :)

Thanks,

Thanks Galanth, looks like I'll be placing my order for sure from them, autumn though as they are too tall now. They have other things I want, do I go with them or jacquesamand, or both. jacquesamand doesn't have that but they do have other interesting bulbs. Decisions!

Ticker, there seems to be two ways of spelling, I think Lan-kong-ense is the correct way and pronunciation.

Wonderful pics! I love all these exotic looking forms--so dramatic!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Just came from NALS and having heard pronunciations of many horrificly long words ~ I would guess the ending is gen-see. Emphasis on 'guess'. ;)

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

You are correct, Moby. And the same with nepalense, canadense, etc... Shocking, isn't it!!

Wallaby - I'd go with Edrom - they are a great company and have a great nursery - I visit there at least once a year and always come back with a box full. They specialise in shade plants as you probably know.

Heaven help me, I really like an Iris jacquesamand have, Firecracker. I wouldn't normally go for this combination of colours, but this is a cracker!

They also have a Tulip Insulinde in the Historical bulb section, expensive but wow!

I can see I will be naughty and spend too much!
