Mmmmm, I love the jungle effect! Do you keep the tree ferns outside or are they potted?

That's a lovely mix of foliage shapes and colours.

A woman near us has a tiny back garden and has turned that into a tropical oasis. There are tree ferns, strelitzia, bananas, datura and brugmansia and all sorts of other things in a very small space. She has it open to the public at the moment to raise funds for the Red Cross.

Black Tree Fern in the foreground isn't hardy and overwinters in the conservatory as do the Dicksonia squarrosas. All the others get a winter fleece-up and they're fine.

My garden is 20' x 15' and I think the phrase is "loaded to the gunwals" with plants. I've discussed with the other half about opening it for charity, but, to be quite honest there isn't enough room to swing a cat, let alone "joe public".

Great foliage contrast!
