Today I bought 3 Satolina Gray plants at our local nursery. Never heard of them before, just liked the foliage. They were not marked with any temperature zones, but being local, I assumed they would grow here in Ohio. After checking the Plant Files, I think maybe they don't survive winter this far north. Just curious if anyone here has tried to grow them...... Kay
Santolina Gray (Cotton Lavender)
i grow lavender even though it's no supposed to live in my zone. i cut the plants to the ground in late autumn and bury them about 3-5 inches under dirt and mulch. i lay pine branches over my entire garden too. once in a while i lose a plant but i've had some for more than 8 yrs. i don't always obey the zone maps. you win some and lose some, but i keep trying.
Ericalynne - Thank you. I decided to go ahead and plant them - I did put them closer to the wall of the house than planned. I will mulch this fall and hope for the best. Thanks.
